Subtitle : Pinyin to Wade-Giles - Wade-Giles to Pinyin
Place : Washington, D.C.
Publisher : Defence Mapping Agency
Year : 1979
Imprint : 919 p.
Bibl. Note : This is a massive list of 22.000 Chinese geographical headings
and names as approved (in 1979) by the United States Board
on Geographical Names. The first part lists the Pinyin name
followed by its spelling in Wade-Giles; a third column called
designation lists the type of toponym (if it referes to a
populated place for example, or waterfalls, a harbour, a cave,
mountains etc.). The next column gives the longitude/latitude
coordinates by minutes, followed by information on the First Order
Administrative Division of the locality (for example province
names under CH01 = Anhui to CH29 = Yunnan). The names listed here
correspond to the names included in the Zhonghuo renmin gongheguo
fen sheng dituji, Hanyu pinyin ban (Provincial Atlas of the People's
Republic of China, Hanyu Pinyin Edition), published by the Cartographic
Publishing House (Beijing) in February 1977. A short list of conventional
or traditionally used names (such as Szechwan Province) is appended.

Title : Mainland China

Imprint : 2 vols.
Bibl. Note : Listings of 108.000 Chinese geographical headings and names as approved (in 1968)
by the United States Board on Geographical names. Spelling in Wade-Giles;
Gives the longitude/latitude coordinates by minutes. Identifies and classifies
information re types or the designation of specific places (such as reef, monastery,
lakes etc.). Also assigns area numbers to each place (a schema which is now obsolete
I believe with the publication of the Chinese GuoBiao code for placenames).
